As we reported a few weeks ago, the Obama administration released a new plan to reduce the number of Sudanese refugees from the country to 80 percent by 2030. That plan says nothing about providing more protection for ethnic minorities.

It’s been doing that through the “No Sanctuary” bill. In 2016, in a landmark victory, Congress passed Senate Bill 1255. The bill requires those with no state in which to apply for admission to come to the United States after sunset. It also explicitly states that there is no imminent threat to United States national security who are coming to serve in the U.S. refugee program at this time, but there could be a future attack.

But that proposal still didn’t get a vote. Despite public support, Senate Bill 1255 is dead and cannot be reconciled with any other U.S. law. The new version is simply an increase in the number of Sudanese refugees. If Congress goes to hell, the issue will fall to Obama who can’t win an election again.
